The Ultimate Agassiz Weekend

We're thrilled to share that we will be hosting the first ever Ultimate Agassiz Weekend at our camp in Poland, Maine from Friday, May 20 - Sunday May 22, 2022. This multi-day event will combine our annual volunteer camp improvement weekend and the third annual 5K for Kids. Join us for a fun filled weekend. Connect with old friends, spruce up the camp for our 2022 campers, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and finish the weekend by racing in the 5K around camp! You must register for the 5K and the Ultimate Agassiz Weekend separately. Please visit the 5K for Kids page to sign up for the fundraiser, and continue below if you plan on joining us in person for camp improvement projects and/or to race.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register? Please fill out the form above, and indicate whether you will stay overnight, come just for volunteer projects during the day on Saturday (no overnight stay), or just for the 5K on Sunday. Families/kids welcome.

What does the schedule for the weekend look like? Refer to the detailed schedule above.

How do lodging and meals work? Lodging is provided on Friday and Saturday nights in Maloney Lodge and camper cabins on a first come first serve basis. You may arrive anytime on Friday or Saturday and choose from the remaining available housing. Maloney Lodge is a brick building with dorm-style double rooms and a shared bathroom. Camper cabins each have two toilets and sinks and are within walking distance of a communal shower house. Bring warm linens and pajamas - it can get chilly at night and none of our buildings are heated (and the cabins are not insulated). Meals are included free of charge Friday dinner through Sunday lunch - if you plan to stay outside of these times please make other arrangements. Everybody must leave by Sunday night as we have a rental group coming on Monday morning.

What projects can I expect to work on? We have lots of camp improvement projects to keep you busy! They include:

  • Miller Hall cleanout and organization

  • Furniture and trash removal

  • Painting projects

  • Landscaping, weed whacking, and gardening

  • Laundry Room mini-renovation

  • Staff Lounge transformation

  • Library transformation into a Serenity Cabin for campers & social worker

What should I pack? Make sure you bring weather appropriate clothing you can work in and pajamas, a sleeping bag or linens for a twin bed, towel(s) and toiletries, and sneakers for the 5K for Kids on Sunday. It is also always helpful for you to bring supplies for volunteer projects - white or gray paint and brushes for painting, gardening tools and flowers, rags and cleaning supplies, books and games for the library, and other tools/supplies are appreciated!

How much does the Ultimate Agassiz Weekend Cost? The Ultimate Agassiz Weekend is free! If you are able, we instead respectfully request that you bring a book to donate to our camp library, paint, or flowers. Thank you!

What is the 5K for Kids? If you are planning on joining us for the volunteer improvement weekend, please also consider participating in the 3rd annual 5K for Kids fundraiser! Sunday morning is the first-ever in-person 5K for Kids! AV’s 5K for Kids fundraiser was started as a virtual event in 2020 and challenges participants to raise funds for AV while training for a 5K walk, jog, ride, or swim. This year’s race day falls on Sunday, September 22nd – join us in the morning or a 5K walk or run around camp! We’ll also announce the winners of fundraising prizes among other festivities. And if you’d like to help us achieve our fundraising goal of $30,000 by the 5K, it’s not too late to sign up and raise some funds between now and Sunday - visit to get started.
