Agassiz Village is a non-profit organization, which provides residential outdoor camping opportunities for youth in the greater Boston area. The majority of our campers are from low income families or are otherwise disadvantaged. Approximately 10% of our campers are also children with disabilities.

Agassiz Village provides affordable recreation and educational opportunities for children that develop character, skills, and knowledge. Each session we serve over 100 children in our various programs – programs that develop R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Many of the children we serve are challenged each day by poverty, neglect, violence, or lack of hope. Not only do we strive to bring the message of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. to their lives, but in doing so we provide the opportunity to discover their own potential
To be a staff member at Agassiz Village is to be a part of an incredible community of people from all over the country as well as the world who dedicate themselves to our mission aimed at improving the lives of our campers. Our mission is to prepare youth for life’s journey. Agassiz Village is more than an enriching summer opportunity: our programs are an investment in the future, to inspire and enable all children, especially those who need our support the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring responsible leaders. We seek genuine, self-motivated individuals with the skills and spirit to make a difference in the lives of children we serve.

Who works at Agassiz Village?
Most of the counselors and staff are college/university students or graduates. Some are Boston natives or from surrounding areas and majority come from various states and countries around the world.

What is camp like for staff?
Working at Agassiz Village is demanding but it is also most rewarding. Our camp sits on 400 acres of beautiful lake-front property in the state of Maine. Staff members lead and supervise campers closely 24 hours a day, sharing a cabin, nestled in the woods, with their fellow counselors and an average group of twelve campers.

Cabin Counselors – counselors are the core of camp life. Counselors live with their campers in our cabins, participate in activities with them, facilitate their group through various group dynamic stages, help campers through various behavioral challenges and ensure that each child's daily needs are met.

Activity Instructors – each of the following areas have an instructor who leads the program, develops lesson plans, and makes sure the program is fun, age appropriate and dynamic:
• sports & fitness,
• arts & crafts,
• dance,
• ropes course,
• nature and outdoor living skills,
• music,
• archery,
• canoeing and kayaking.
Activity instructors also work directly with assigned camper groups when not leading their specific activities.

Program Coordinator – oversees the overall schedule of camp programs, plans, sets up and oversees all evening and special day activities, helps with program schedules and assists Camp Director in any needed program areas as directed.

Lifeguards/Swim Instructors – lifeguards spend their days at the waterfront and work directly with waterfront director conducting swim lessons and free swim activities. They must have up-to-date lifeguard certification, including CPR and First Aid. Agassiz Village also can arrange for staff to be certified or re-certified in the beginning of the summer. Also, like Activity Instructors, Lifeguards work directly with assigned camper groups when not at the waterfront.
